Recycle Bicycle - Cancelled

It is with a heavy heart that I must let you know Helping Hands has canceled Recycle Bicycle. Below is the email I received from Karen Barrisford:

I am writing to let you know that I have had to cancel next weeks Kids Bike Drive. So sorry.

It was a difficult, considered decision. Up until this morning we were running at it, full speed ahead: the posters were printed and going up, …we pulled back the social media campaign….and cancelled my interview with Mtn FM…retracted the ad and event calendar in the Chief newspaper.

I have been fortunate to have Michelle and Shane supporting the Kids Bike Drive but our workloads, short staffing and regularly responding to overdoses have us all running too close to exhaustion to pull off this amazing event next week.

The Recycle Bicycle program is still alive. I had a volunteer day today with Jim and Derek, we purged and sorted the existing bikes. Derek is repairing kids bikes that we will distribute through the Food Bank. I believe you were interested in a bike for a sponsored family, let me know what you are looking for and we will get a bike to you. Pierre (our summer student) will start in early July, he will promote and run the program all summer. We may be able to organize a Kids Bike drive in the Fall.
Sports Day Concession June 16th

Sports Day Concession June 16th

Mamquam PAC is hoping to be able to do a concession on Sports Day again this year (Friday, June 16) and are looking for a few more parent volunteers to run it. It would likely be open from 10:00-1:00, and we could do 2 shifts (10:00-11:30 and 11:30-1:00). We'd need probably 4 parents per shift. If you are able to help out please let Kristin know at [email protected], and thank you to those who have already reached out!

World Ocean's Day Assembly

World Ocean's Day Assembly

Minna Koskela Wild led our school through a beautiful assembly this week to celebrate World Ocean's Day. Our grade 4/5 students from Ms Gilchrist's class were our brave speakers throughout the event. Special guests were invited to share new knowledge, songs and highlight what the ocean means to them. Paul Lorette, Alice Tsawaysia Spukwus Guss, see-appl-tun Art Harry, Clare Hodgetts, Bella Johnston and Rich Duncan joined us. Ollie Crowell shared her speech on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and Ms. Lock's class demonstrated their interpretation of the life of a salmon. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our World Ocean's Day Assembly, you gave us all lots to think about. Ask at home, what do you wonder about the ocean? How can we help the ocean?
