Mrs. Gilchrist and Mrs. Sissons class just concluded our RAVEN talks. All students in these two classes participated in a public speak event where each student had to write and present a two min “Ted talk” style speech about something that matters. On Tuesday we had 12 students present in the library in front of 60 students on topics that ranged from “why education is so important” to “Why pineapple does not belong on pizza”. Yesterday 4 of our students were selected to go to Whistler and present at the SLCC for the Sea to Sky speaker series with students from Myrtle Philip, Spring Creek and Signal Hill. It was a fantastic event. Congrats to our speakers for their great work!

I want to highlight the positive contribution of one of our Grade 3 students. This week Korey Brooks came to school with short hair and a big smile. Kory grew his hair for 4 years to cut it off as a donation for cancer patients. We are so proud of Kory and his commitment to others and making the world a better place!

Mrs. Sollid's Grade 5/6 class started to learn how to build a shelter in the forest today.

We have enjoyed having the ducks in our K/1 classes this week and are so surprised to see how fast they grow and learn new things. They will be heading to their forever home today at a farm in the Squamish Valley. We will miss them!

Don Ross PAC will be hosting a series of parent education sessions opened to all parents in Squamish. All talks will be held at Don Ross middle school and will have 50 seats available. If you have a child in Grade 4 onward and feel one of these topics could benefit you please attend.

It's so great to see with the sunny weather more and more families are walking, riding, scooting and wheeling to school. Attached is a map from the Squamish District of the Mamquam Elementary Best Routes to arrive at school safely.

The Bike Rodeo, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Squamish, is an annual event at Mamquam. Students are able to have their bikes checked for mechanical safety and participate in a bicycle “driving test”!

If your child would like to participate, please ensure that they have their bike in working order and helmet at school on May 18th. Scooters and wheelchairs welcome.

Unfortunately it is not possible to give specific times for when each class will be participating, as it depends on the number of participants from each classroom.

Mrs. Lock's and Mrs. O'Neill's class have been learning about the salmon life cycle. Today they released the salmon fry into the Mamquam Spawning Channels behind the Squamish Valley Golf Course.

We all had such a wonderful time creating an original song with Hayley from Texada Music! She was such a fun, positive and creative addition to our Mamquam Community. We will miss you Hayley. Stay tuned for our song!

We welcomed back Papa Josh this week. He will be teaching us guitar and drumming until May 25th!
