The Intermediate students at Mamquam kicked off their unit on voting and municipal government with a school vote. Various teachers hit the campaign trail with varying platforms; some only made promises they knew they could keep, others made impossible promises they had no intention of keeping and there may have even been some bribery tactics using gummies. The purpose of this activity was to pique the student's interest in voting and local government while also getting them to think critically about why they voted for the candidate they voted for, what the candidate was standing for and comparing to other teacher's platforms or lack of platforms. If you get a chance, talk to your child about who they voted for and why. Discussion points could be: why did you vote for that teacher? What were they standing for? Did you compare their ideas to another teacher? This is building up for our local municipal election, please discuss at home what your thoughts are on the local candidates.

To make families lives easier (and likely save you some money,) parents have the option of purchasing school supplies from the school at a cost of $40. Classroom teachers will purchase all the supplies your child will need for the year.

What to do when you are away

Join us in the Mamquam Gardens to get together as a community! We will have music by Whistler resident Papa Josh and the Teriyaki Boyz Food Truck as well as a farm stand from our own Mamquam Garden!

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school next week from Wednesday September 21 to Thursday September 22!

This year we will be bringing back the Kilometre Club at Mamquam. The goal of Kilometre Club is to get students moving on a daily/weekly basis, motivating them to run or walk more when they are at school.

Hello Mamquam families! Welcome back to what’s sure to be a fantastic school year! Your Mamquam PAC will be sending home a notice in the next day or two regarding volunteer opportunities. Participating in PAC is a great way to get involved in your child’s school and helps you to feel connected with our amazing school community. Please fill out these forms and send them back to the school. Volunteer opportunities can be as simple as coming to a meeting (we have just 4 this year - Oct 4, Jan 10, Mar 7, and June 6) or helping out with one of our fun events (Christmas Craft Fair, kids gift shop, Spring Fling, etc). For our Mamquam Families, we are offering a 6 week in-person workshop at Mamquam. Dates: Tuesday October 4th - November 8th. Time: 5:00pm- 7:00pm

As per the Premier's statement earlier this afternoon, schools will be closed on Monday, September 19th, 2022, in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's funeral service. Schools will re-open for regular instruction on Tuesday, September 20th, 2022.
