On Friday, Mrs. Yates class had a lovely family tea party with parents and caregivers. The students made cookies and helped serve the tea.

Another group of students have finished 6 weeks of training in the Robotics Club. The Tuesday Robotics Club had over 20 students learning about computational thinking using Code and Go Mice and Evo Ozobots. The intermediate club learned about block coding and how to use a 3D printer with supervision. We created drawing attachments for the Evo robots on the printer and then coded programs that directed their robot how to draw. This term, teachers participated in a profession development to learn about the different robots in the school and some are now using them in their classrooms. Thank you again to the MQE PAC for supporting this school-wide initiative. There will be another 6 weeks of Robotics Club starting in April.

We have yet to have anyone step forward to form a planning committee for our Spring Fling happening on May 4, 2023. If we do not have enough of an organizing group in place by the end of next week, we will be forced to cancel this years event. The girls in the Mamquam Newsletter Club put out a new copy of their newsletter "Raven's News" for Valentine's. They found out some fun facts about Valentine's Day, interviewed Mrs. Shea and added a beautiful poem. Thanks to Sophia M, Bowen, Soldis and Sage for your hard work. Please take a look

The Virtual Teen Mentoring Program is open to children in grades 1-7 of any gender. As a Little Buddy in this program, the child will be “matched” with a Teen Mentor/Big Buddy, a high school student in grades 9-12. They will spend 1 hour each week together online (via Zoom), engaging in fun activities and building a positive friendship. These weekly sessions take place after school and are supervised by one of our own Big Brothers staff. They currently have many spots available in our Tuesday sessions (4-5pm) and Thursday sessions (4:30pm – 5:30pm)

On Friday, February 10, intermediate students participated in a Carnival de Quebec. They rotated through 5 stations featuring various activities common at this French Canadian cultural event. At each station, students communicated using simple French vocabulary and sentences to earn stamps in their carnival passports. Ask at home, about their favourite station or some of French vocabulary they spoke.

We would love to have all the students wear red or pink on Tuesday Feb 14th, Valentine's day.

Ms. Sollid's class took advantage of the beautiful weather and ventures down to the river for an afternoon of adventure, learning and sunshine!

Thanks to our PAC, this week students were thrilled to have Strawberry Isle Marnie Research Society visit our school. They brought a skeleton of an offshore killer whale and students
assisted in reconstructing the skeleton bone by bone. We learned about the biology, anatomy, evolution and conservation of killer whales and other marine mammals.
