Pink Shirt Day
Dear Mamquam Community,
On Feb 22nd (Pink Shirt Day) our school gathered together in the gym to talk about the meaning of Pink Shirt Day and our Raven value of caring. We shared the science of practicing kindness, and how research has proven that acting with kindness can :
1) Make you physically healthier : acting with kindness boosts serotonin and dopamine, and releases endorphins in your body that help reduce inflammation (making you physically healthier).
2) Increases your connectivity with others and increases your sense of belonging : this is a fundamental human need.
3) It changes the memory cycles in your brain. When you act with kindness, your memories form as positive thoughts, which then re-enforce positive feelings and emotions. Twp people experiencing the same event can have very different memories of the situation based on how their brain interpreted the event.
Our students left the assembly with a task. All 290 students went back to their classrooms and wrote a three part thank you…
Thank you for ___(be specific)
It was so thoughtful of you because __ (impact & effort).
You are really good at ____ (spot strength.)
Then we filmed 3-4 students per class and made a short video of our school showing gratitude and kindness to each other and our community..

We hope you enjoy the montage of our students reading their thank you letters…
