Our Mamquam grade 5/6 basketball team hosted the very first game of the season on Tuesday afternoon against Valleycliffe Elementary. Everyone played really well and had a great time. Thank you to the coaches and all of the family spectators for cheering the teams on.

Did you know Ms. Buxton's K/1 class has a bearded dragon class pet!? His name is Jaxx and is very sweet, the staff and students love him!

We are really excited to welcome Karima Essa, a three-time Canadian National Dance Champion to Mamquam on February 27th and 28th. Karima is a charismatic Bollywood dancer, choreographer and performer. In 2014 and 2015, her love for Bollywood took her to Mumbai as a two-time finalist on Omni TV's reality show, Bollywood Star. Since first showcasing in 2018, she has performed shows and workshops in 250+ schools across BC and Saskatchewan. Karima's new focus is on celebrating that all bodies can dance by bringing the body positivity movement to Bollywood Dance in schools.

SSCS childcare programs and out of school care programs located on school grounds will be closed on Friday February 21st to allow educators to attend a professional development conference.

Students loved playing in the snow this week at Mamquam. We even had many students work together to build an igloo!

As part of our fundraiser in support of the Coldest Night of the Year event we will be fundraising for the Squamish Helping Hands Society with a Candy Jar Raffle. Students will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for $1 each and enter to win a jar of their choice at long recess from February 10th-13th. Students are welcome to purchase as many tickets as they like and drop their ticket into the bucket for the jar that they would like. We will draw winners on Thursday February 13th in the afternoon.

Mamquam Elementary has signed up to help the Squamish Helping Hands Society by participating in their 2nd annual Coldest Night of the Year national fundraiser. We have pledged to raise funds through a Candy Jar Raffle next week in support. We will participate in a whole school walk on February 21st in the surrounding neighbourhood. Our next Professional Development Day is on Friday February 14th, school will not be in session that day.

Literacy Week was last week at Mamquam and it was a great success! We celebrated with a school wide Drop Everything and Read on Wednesday and we had over 300 entries into our Family Literacy Bingo and 7 winners! Thanks Mamquam for supporting literacy!
