This Week…(and beyond)
Our first week of 2017 and come and gone. Students were happy to be back with friends and engaged in their learning.
This week we welcomed Joyce Williams from the Squamish Nation. She will be presenting our First Nations Cultural Program to all students in our school. She will visit each class between now and early February, teaching them about First Nation legends, weaving, beading, salmon and it’s importance, eagles, Slahal game, drumming, dancing and so much more. Our students always enjoy her engaging lessons!
January 16 is a non-instructional day for students – Teachers will be gathering to learn more about the new BC Curriculum and collaborating with other teaching staff brainstorming ideas and ways to create critical thinkers and engaged learners.
Early February will see our Grade 2 through 6 students enjoying 2 days in the Callaghan Valley as they undertake Cross Country Ski lessons.
Keep up to date with what is happening and upcoming in the school by checking out the Upcoming Events on our website
January 24 is the official day that schools in the District will begin taking registration for Kindergarten, September 2017. If you, your friend or neighbor have a child born in 2012 (turning 5 this calendar year), then it’s time to find their birth certificate, care card and head to your catchment school to register ! Please also bring something that has parent name and confirmation of street address. Parents must register at their catchment school and can request a transfer to an alternate school if desired. Please look for advertisements in the Squamish Chief newspaper or the School District website for more information on the registration process.

We encourage students (and families) to walk or bike to school. Most of our students live within a 10 minute walking radius. HASTe (Hub for Active School Travel) has had school, parent, student, RCMP and DOS staff input on safe routes to school. What a great guide for students travelling to school by foot or on bikes/scooters! best-route-to-school
