School Overview
Mamquam Elementary is a Kindergarten to grade 6 school located on the Traditional and Ancestral Unceded Territory of the Skwxwú7mesh People. The school was constructed in 1956 and we currently have around 350 students.
Our Shared School Values are Community, Learning, Kindness and Creativity. We live and learn these values as we continuously work towards our school goal of becoming creative and critical thinkers.
We are an Arts Infusion School, which means we infuse the arts to deepen learning across the curriculum.
Arts infusion is an approach to learning where:
- Student construct and demonstrate understanding through art forms
- Students make connections between art forms and other subject areas
- Students develop creative and critical thinking skills through art forms
- Art learning outcomes have equal value with other learning outcomes
We intentionally build solid foundational skills for learning through structures and instructional strategies that develop our student's literacy, numeracy and social emotional learning skills.
A unique feature of our school is the Mamquam Edible School Yard (MESY) Garden. This amazing learning space is managed by local non-profit group Squamish Community Action Network (Squamish CAN.) Squamish CAN staff and volunteers collaborate with Mamquam teachers on projects that engage student curiosity and understanding about our relationship with growing food and the local environment.
We are a caring and supportive learning community, known for our contribution to our school, the community and the world!
