National Youth Climate Activism Award

Greetings!

I am reaching out today to share the news about the National Youth Climate Activism Award 2024 for students.

Now in its third year, it requires applicants from any grade to demonstrate devotion to taking meaningful steps towards improving the outlook for our planet concerning climate change.

We are very sensitive about asking too much of school districts' teachers and administrators and so our simple wish is that every school helps to make their students aware of this powerful initiative. We want to be sure that your students who are making a difference, will have an opportunity to be recognized by this pan-Canadian award.

Our Youth Climate Cabinet, the custodians of the Award are working diligently to magnify this climate movement. It’s a simple idea but it’s a big idea: shine a light so that teenagers can see the positive efforts their friends are making. Shine a light so that adults, communities and politicians can see these young spirits on fire.

The submission must take the form of a film of up to 5 minutes, or a 500-word essay (or combination of text and photo essay), that shares the applicant’s passion and commitment to their climate activism. Submissions are received online through our website during the application period which begins on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2024, and closes on Earth Day, April 22, 2024.

Cash awards are as follows: $1000 for students 14 to 19 years of age; and $500 for students under 14.

These inspiring messages will populate the virtual world as good news stories that help us all push back against climate despair.

Momentum is fundamental to our motto, “nurturing the unstoppable wave” inspired by a speech we witnessed by Greta Thunberg on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The award is managed under the auspices of the Institute for Sustainability Education and Action [I – SEA] a registered Canadian charity that has been working diligently in the climate sphere for seventeen years.

We have attached the poster which we hope may be prominently displayed in your school.

Perhaps you could share this information with your school's environmental group, in your newsletter and with your parent's advisory committee.

We have also provided a link to a video from Canadian musician Luke Wallace, in which he introduces the award to students.
